London –
West Ham officially announced that they had reached an agreement for the transfer Declan Rice. The England midfielder soon joined Arsenal.
Rice parted ways with the Hammers after six years in the first team. This 24-year-old footballer was sold for 105 million pounds sterling (Rp. 2.06 trillion), to become the most expensive English player.
Rice’s transfer fee eclipsed the previous record when Manchester City signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for 100 million pounds in 2021. However, the record for the most expensive player transfer in English football still belongs to Enzo Fernandez when he was bought by Chelsea from Benfica for 106.8 million pounds.
West Ham did not mention Arsenal in its official statement when releasing Declan Rice.
“West Ham United can confirm that an agreement has been reached so that Declan Rice can leave the club for a British record fee,” the Hammers said in a statement.
Declan Rice defended West Ham since the junior team before promotion to the first team in 2017. So far Rice has made nearly 250 appearances with a contribution of 15 goals and 13 assists. Rice’s contribution helped the West London team win the 2022/2023 UEFA Conference League.
“Declan will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Hammers fans and everyone at the club. We wish him all the best for the future and he will always be an inspiration and example to our young players from our academy,” said West Ham boss David Sullivan .
Rice himself has said farewell to West Ham fans. Rice uploaded a video accompanied by a caption on social media.
“I can’t believe 10 incredible years have come to an end. West Ham has been a very important part of my life on and off the pitch. Saying goodbye is never easy,” Rice wrote.
“Thank you for the amazing memories and the best days of my life.”
