Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Wagner Group
CNN reported on the 14th (local time) that Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed that the Wagner mercenary group was commanded by a high-ranking member of the Wagner group named Andrei Troshev, reported by the Russian newspaper Comersant.
Putin has been creating a rift between Wagner seniors and former leader Evgoni Prigozhin since the Bagner group’s uprising last month.
According to Kommersant, during a meeting with dozens of Wagner’s soldiers, Putin spoke about the future of Wagner’s forces and said that they could continue to fight in Ukraine under a commander called “Sedoy”.
Andrey Troshev is a retired colonel and co-founder and executive director of the Wagner Group.
The European Union (EU) announced that Troshev was subject to sanctions related to the Wagner Group’s activities in Syria, saying that he was the general manager of the Wagner Group’s activities in Syria. He was born in Leningrad in 1953 and served in the Chechen and Afghan wars.
The British government also sanctioned Troshev in June of last year, saying, “He was once the CEO of the Wagner Group. He helped the Syrian regime and oppressed the Syrian people as a member of the militia.”
Troshev’s aides include Drytri Utkin, a former Russian military intelligence officer (GRU) co-founder of the Wagner Group, and Alexander Sergeyevich Kuznetsov and Andrei Bogatov, the commanders of the Wagner Group.
