Forest fires have been ravaging Canada for several days with some 400 blazes. The country is eagerly awaiting reinforcements. While Canada burns, in the United States, New York suffocates. The inhabitants live under an orange smoke.

In just a few hours, New York (United States) found itself drowned in a nightmarish atmosphere, Thursday, June 8. A yellow then orange veil covers the city, a consequence of the smoke from the fires coming from Canada and which now masks the tops of the skyscrapers. “You can’t even see the World Trade Center“, deplores a resident. French tourists, stunned, also film the charged sky of Times Square.

All delayed flights

In New York, the air is almost unbreathable. The authorities have advised residents to limit their movements and any physical activity. “It made me cough all day long (…). This is the kind of cough I had when I smoked“, confides Jack Wright, a retired lawyer. The air quality standard has gone from “harmful” to “very harmful”, unheard of. All flights to New York have been delayed.
