Czech Tennis Players Impress in International Tournaments

On Friday, Wimbledon offered an attractive doubles derby between Barbora Strýcová and Maria Bouzková, who are playing alongside foreign partners at the All England Club. Strýcová celebrated advancing to the finals with Taiwan’s Su-wei Xie. At the French WTA 125 tournament in Contrexéville, Tereza Martincová lost only two games in the quarterfinals against the German Anna-Lena Friedsamová. Brenda Fruhvirtová fought her way to the semi-finals in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, in a duel with domestic qualifier Anouk Koevermansová. Jakub Menšík was not enough for the tournament number one Bernabe Zapata Miralles at the challenger in Jasy.

Czechs in action

Martincová dominated in France
Tereza Martincová (115th) performed superbly in the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 tournament in Contrexéville, France! In just 57 minutes, she outclassed fifth-seeded Anna-Lena Friedsamová (87th) 6:1, 6:1 and fought her way to the first semi-final of the year outside the ITF circuit. In it, she will face the winner of the match between Sara Errani (79th) and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (119th).

We cover more about the match here.

B. Fruhvirtová made it to the semi-finals
The ITF tournament in Amstelveen is going well for Brenda Fruhvirtová (138th) so far. In the 60s there, she also managed a quarter-final duel, in which she defeated the local Anouk Koevermansová (705th) in two hours and two minutes after sets 7:5, 7:6(1) and can look forward to a meeting with the first seeded Kaia Kanepiová (101. ) from Estonia.

Minor did not advance to the semi-finals
Jakub Menšík (217th) was not happy with the two-hour quarter-final on the challenger in Jasy, Romania. He ended up losing 1:6, 6:3, 2:6 in a duel with Bernab Zapata Miralles (53rd), seeded number one. However, progressing into the top eight brought him significantly closer to qualifying for the US Open, when he moved to the 200th place in the ATP rankings.

Paulson is in the semifinals for the third time this year
Twenty-one-year-old Andrew Paulson (428th), who is eager to move up the rankings and establish himself at the challenger level, advanced to the semi-finals on the circuit for the third time this season. After two semi-final appearances in June, he managed to build on these results at the round of 25 in Kassel, Germany, where, as the seventh seed, he defeated Svjatoslav Gulin (740th) 6:2, 6:2 in the quarterfinals.

Štruplová fought for advancement over Kučmová
Julie Štruplová (376th) will play the semifinals of the ITF tournament in Aschaffenburg. In Friday’s quarterfinals, she faced her more experienced compatriot Aneta Kučmová (391st), whom she defeated 6:4, 6:2 at the German top 25.

Šebestová finished in the quarterfinals in Germany
Czech qualifier Ivana Šebestová (565th) ended her pilgrimage with a tournament in Aschaffenburg in the quarterfinals. The Greek Sapfo Sakellaridi (309th) was beyond her strength, with whom she lost in two sets 4:6, 3:6.
