The athletics blogger @Athletics1 first reported it on Twitter.
The time is 58 hundredths faster than the previous Norwegian record, and six hundredths behind the WC requirement.
– I gave everything I had today and threw myself over the finish line. I can’t ask for more. I knew I could run down to the Norwegian record, but I had no chance of beating it by so much, said an ecstatic Jæger to the Norwegian Athletics Federation shortly after the silver.
Amalie Iuel had the previous Norwegian record of 51.64.
Jæger won the king’s trophy in the athletics NM last weekend. Then she also became Norwegian champion in the 400 metres.
Håvard Bentdal Ingvaldsen also impressed over the distance in Espoo, Finland, and took gold in the U23 EC with a time of 45.13.
