On average, noise nuisance from the airport must be reduced by 20 percent. Broken down, this means 20 percent less in the morning (between 6 and 7 a.m.), 7 percent less during the day (between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.), 30 percent less in the evening (between 9 and 11 p.m.) and 100 percent less at night ( between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.).
In the mornings, evenings and weekends, older and noisy aircraft would no longer be welcome at Brussels Airport. This concerns, for example, the oldest versions of the Airbus A330, the Airbus A320, the Boeing 737, the Boeing 767 and the Boeing 747.
“I do this in the general interest of all local residents,” says Gilkinet, “whether they are Flemish, Brussels or Walloon, and with respect for the economic interests of the airport and the 65,000 people who work there.”
