A number of social media pioneers attacked Hanan Shawky’s recent statements, which she said while hosting the “Qadat Set” program presented by the presenter, Marwa Sabry.
Hanan, when asked about the hijab, replied, “I am veiled, who told you that I am not veiled?” Marwa commented, “I mean the head covering.” She answered, “You mean work wear. I am veiled hearing, heart, spirit, eyes, speech and actions. Whoever comes to God with a healthy heart, the strongest veil in the universe, is called the veil of the limbs.
The audience’s comments on the video came: “What is the relationship of female artists with religious matters? Why do you always focus on the issue of veiling with female artists in particular? This is a new religion. This is your veil. I do not know where to trust this. I invented a new religion.”
Hanan Shawqi participated in starring in a large number of cinematic and television artworks, including: Layali al-Helmeya, The Scrooge and I, Blood on the Asphalt, The Terrorist, Ya Tahab Ya Taqub.
