Libreville, Tuesday, July 11, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – Paris intends to provide Libreville with support with a view to strengthening its capacities and mastering its maritime space. The press release from the Gabonese presidency.
“The President of the Republic HE Mr. Ali Bongo Ondimba received today at the Palais Rénovation a delegation led by Admiral Pierre Vandier, Chief of Staff of the French Navy introduced to the Presidential Cabinet by HE Mr. Alexis Lamek, Ambassador, High Representative of the French Republic Near the Gabonese Republic.
This high-level meeting between the President of the Republic and his host is part of regular exchanges between Gabon and France to review the situation in terms of bilateral cooperation in the field of defence. This meeting with the Head of State was an opportunity for Admiral Vandier to express the willingness of the French authorities to provide their support and assistance to Gabon, with a view to developing its capacity for action and multifaceted projection at sea and control of its maritime space.
Within the framework of the said cooperation relations, the presence of French troops in the Gulf of Guinea aims to support African countries, particularly our country, in the management of their maritime areas, the protection of their fisheries resources and the fight against any form of maritime piracy.
The Head of State reiterated to his hosts his desire to strengthen and revitalize cooperation in maritime matters between our two countries, in order to raise it to a higher level by agreement of the Parties, within the framework of ‘mutually beneficial benefits’.
