The Importance of Food Temperature for Maintaining Body Temperature Stability

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Clinical nutrition specialist at Mitra Keluarga Kemayoran Hospital, dr. Luciana Sutanto said food temperature can affect health in maintaining body temperature stability in the middle of the transition season.

“Food temperature affects health, for example warm food consumed when the air temperature is cold will help maintain a stable body temperature,” Luciana wrote in a short message received by ANTARA in Jakarta, Friday.

The doctor who graduated with a master’s degree in nutrition at the University of Indonesia said that unpredictable weather changes and dust can affect a child’s physical condition. So it is necessary to maintain the body’s metabolism to keep running normally.

To maintain the body’s metabolism, Luciana said children must be given food according to their nutritional needs, both calories and macro and micro nutrients. It can make the body’s metabolism run normally to keep the body in good condition.

“For example, when the air temperature gets cold, the body will try to warm itself to keep the metabolism normal. The body’s metabolism will proceed normally at a normal body temperature,” he said, giving an example.

Luciana emphasized that supplementation is only needed if the child’s body needs it.

“If food intake contains complete nutrients, supplements should not be given, but if there is a nutritional deficiency that can be proven by laboratory measurement results, supplements must be treated,” he said.

Meanwhile, for children under 1 year of age or those who are still consuming complementary foods, Luciana suggests that food must meet calorie needs and fulfill nutritional requirements to stay healthy in the midst of the transition season. Apart from that, it is also important to pay attention to the temperature of the food so that the nutrients in the food do not spoil quickly.

Parents can also find out the child’s nutritional status by using the child’s growth and development chart in the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) book.

“To find out whether a child’s food intake is sufficient, that is by measuring nutritional status using anthropometric measurements compared to the MCH growth and development chart,” said Luciana ending her explanation.
