WASHINGTON – David Petraeus, a retired United States (US) general who is also a former director of the CIA, said the President’s invasion Vladimir
Putin the Ukraine is a very bad decision for Russia.
“Putin, of course, is still in denial. He hasn’t looked in the mirror and seen a leader who made really bad decisions for his country,” Petraeus told Jake Tapper of CNN, which was launched Friday (14/7/2023).
“Yes [Putin] determined to make Russia great again, and has really made NATO great again,” Petraeus said.
Petraeus’ sentiments about Putin and NATO have also been voiced by other Western experts.
First, in March 2022, former commander of the supreme NATO ally James Stavridis told MSNBC: “Putin is probably the best thing that ever happened to the NATO alliance.”
Stavridis cited a boost in German defense spending just days after Putin announced an invasion of Ukraine, something the country had hesitated doing for years.
Petraeus had a long career in the US Army, where he commanded US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The retired general also served as CIA director between 2011 and 2012.
