Sotiris Alexandropoulos, 21, will not continue with a lion on his chest in 2023/2024, he has a market in his home country, Greece, and on the negotiating table there is already a proposal from AEK to rescue the midfielder.
The defending Greek champion, according to A BOLA, made a suggestion to Sporting to buy, immediately, the majority of the player’s economic rights for an amount of around €2.5M.
The desire of the team coached by Argentine Matias Almeyda is so much that they put another alternative in the negotiations, which involves a loan with an option to buy at the end of the season for around €4M for a percentage of the economic rights of the superior player.
It remains to be seen what will be the response of Sporting’s management to this wish by AEK, knowing that in the final stretch of the summer market of 2022 it paid €4M to Panathinaikos for the Greek midfielder’s pass and, at the very least, would like to be reimbursed for this amount .
Sotiris, remember, was the last signing of the lions last summer, after Matheus Nunes left for Wolverhampton. However, the Greek never imposed himself as a lion chest and only participated in 14 games, and in only one was he in the starting line-up, in a game of bad memory for the lions, as they ended up eliminated from the Portuguese Cup (0-1) by Varzim ( Alloy 3).
The departure of the defensive midfielder was in the minds of those responsible for Leon back in January, at the reopening of the market, but this could not materialize because he had already played for Panathinaikos and Sporting and, in light of FIFA regulations, a footballer can only represent two clubs each season.
AEK now presents itself as a solution that will be to the liking of Sotiris, with the possibility of playing in the Champions League – it enters into action in the third qualifying round – after a year in the shadows.
Despite being little used at Sporting, Sotiris continued to earn the trust of the Greek coach, the Uruguayan Gustavo Poyet, but he lost ground in the Greek national team, because in the last two meetings, against the Republic of Ireland and France, despite being summoned for the concentration, it didn’t even end up entering the chips for both games.
Therefore, AEK is ready to receive the player, either definitively or on loan, with the Greeks having to reach an agreement with the player regarding the terms of the salary, and the salary must be within the procedures defined by the champion. Greek for his squad, not sticking the salary cap.
