Germany has a remarkable summer hit richer, namely the song Friesenjung by the Dutch rapper Joost and the Berlin rapper Ski Aggu. Friesenjung is an adaptation of the big hit Englishman In New York from 1987 by singer Sting.
In 2022, Joost Klein and artist Ski Aggu were the support act for American rapper Yung Gravy in Berlin. This led to the collaboration, resulting in this summer hit. “It is a crazy experience”, says Klein NOS Stories. “I don’t know what’s going on. I now have shows in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.”
Klein was born and raised in Friesland and sings about it in the song. The vocals of the German 74-year-old comedian Otto Waalkes can also be heard.
One month at number 1 in the German chart
Although the song cannot be found in the Dutch charts, it has been in first place in Germany for a month. Became on Spotify Friesenjung played five million times within a week. “That makes it even more absurd and I secretly think that has its charms. In the Netherlands they have no idea what is happening there.”
Klein dreams of participating in the Eurovision Song Contest. “This is truly one of mine goals from an early age. Eurovision is in my heart, kidneys and DNA. I make Eurovision music, that’s no joke!”
