The “offender” was fined BGN 350 under the Decree on Combating Petty Hooliganism
Every day on the street I am a victim, people like me are victims. With these words, PR expert and secular guru Evgeni Minchev addressed the court on Thursday. He appeared in the Sofia District Court in a case under the Decree on combating petty hooliganism, which is why he was called “the offender” by judge Vanya Goranova.
Evgeni Minchev, who calls himself Lord, fell not into the secular but into the criminal chronicles after he was detained in the center of Sofia shortly before midnight on Saturday. The reason he spent the night in the custody of the First District Office was that he refused to identify himself, showed the middle finger to police officers, cursed them in English, called them “trash” and kicked the police car.
The patrol ended up on “Aksakov” street in the area of the former “Crystal” restaurant at 11:20 p.m. following a report of a scandal between Evgeni Minchev and a dozen young people. In fact, they attacked him, knocked him to the ground and started kicking him.
“I still have swelling on my head, on my groin”, the PR expert explained to the court. Before the fight with the youths, he was at a party at the former Sheraton Hotel on Sveta Nedelya Square. He was with his friend – Tsvetan Hristov, who was questioned by the court.
Around 11 p.m., the two left the social event, Evgeni Minchev went home, and Tsvetan Hristov decided to see him off. They hadn’t had much to drink – a glass or two of champagne.
The jewelry he had chosen
In the area of the former “Crystal” establishment, Minchev asked his friend to buy him water. The man entered a shop. At that moment, Minchev was attacked by a dozen people. They knocked him to the ground and kicked him. According to his friend, he was briefly unconscious and had blood on his face. However, Tsvetan Hristov did not get too close because he could not look at blood.
Then girls appeared. Patrol and Ambulance were called. The uniformed men and women who were on shift from 7pm to 7am came in 2 minutes.
According to their claims, they found Evgeni Minchev leaning on a road sign, he had difficulty staying on his feet, and his functions were delayed. They smelled of alcohol. They asked him to identify himself. He refused.
Here the versions already diverge. According to the uniformed men, he called them “trash”, showed them the middle finger, and cursed at them in English. When they asked him for an identity card, he refused, saying: I won’t give you anything.
According to Minchev’s friend, the insulting remarks were not directed at the law enforcement officers, but at his attackers. Tsvetan Hristov confirmed that Minchev did not identify himself because he wanted the police not to deal with him, but to chase those who knocked him to the ground and kicked him.
After his release from detention, Minchev wrote an apology letter for the “misunderstanding” to the superior of the First District Office. According to his lawyer, as a man with an officer’s education, he had great respect for people with epaulettes.

Minchev himself asked the court to acquit him in order to clear his name. “I am the victim,” he repeated several times. According to judge Vanya Goranova, Minchev was not unconscious, but committed petty hooliganism with his actions. She punished him with a fine of BGN 350, which he can appeal within 24 hours. If he does, there will be a case in the Sofia City Court, which is scheduled for July 18.
Minchev himself refused to comment on leaving the hall because he was chasing a plane to Great Britain.
