The mayor of Cannes made this announcement, for the moment not confirmed by the government, during the agglomeration council.
David Lisnard, mayor of Cannes, announced this Thursday in the agglomeration council the appointment of Hugues Moutouh, currently in post in Hérault, as new prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, learned BFM Nice Côte d’Azur from from David Lisnard’s office, confirming information from Nice-Matin.
The mayor of Cannes took a phone call during the agglomeration council. The elected official declared having spoken with Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior having announced to him the arrival of a “strong personality” at the prefecture of the department.
Statements on the sidelines of the riots
Hugues Moutouh, current prefect of Hérault, recently spoke during the nights of riots linked to the death of Nahel, a 17-year-old teenager killed by police fire in Nanterre on June 27. The prefect had notably pointed the finger at the responsibility of the parents of the young people arrested during the urban violence.
“I know in 2019 Parliament banned spanking but quite frankly, between you and me, you catch your kid going down the street to burn police vehicles, stone firefighters or loot shops, the method what is it?”, he said on France Blue. “It’s two slaps and off to bed. That’s what our grandparents did.”
Remarks which had been quickly criticized by several left-wing elected officials such as Aymeric Caron or even Sandrine Rousseau.
A “disregard for the rules of appointment
This Thursday, the manner of announcing the future arrival of Hugues Moutouh in the Alpes-Maritimes, however, did not pass with the mayor of Nice, who points out on Twitter a “contempt for the rules of appointment, which reveal only the Council of ministers”.
“You cannot claim a strong and respected state, and weaken it in this way. [David Lisnard] replace the Council of Ministers?” continues Christian Estrosi.
The Ministry of the Interior, however, did not confirm the announcement made by David Lisnard, and recalls that Bernard Gonzalez, prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes for four years, is still in office, reports Nice-Matin. Bernard Gonzalez has held the position of prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes for four years.
