EA unveiled EA Sports FC 24; that is the football game that takes over from FIFA. The game will be released on September 29 for Windows, Nintendo Switch, and current and previous generation Xbox and PlayStation. Buyers of the Ultimate Edition can play the game a week early, starting September 22.
It was already known that Electronic Arts would no longer use the FIFA name for its football games; the company announced this more than a year ago. In that statement it gave no reason for the switch, but information about it came out through detours. According to The New York Times, the eponymous football association wanted more than a billion dollars every four years for the license to put the FIFA name on the game. That was more than double compared to the previous agreement and those negotiations have clearly failed.
EA Sports FC 24, FC24 for short, runs on a custom Frostbite engine originally developed by Battlefield creator DICE. The trailer shows the new so-called Hypermotion V technology, which should make it possible to develop realistic player animations faster. The so-called PlayStyles technology uses data from real life to make players’ playing styles more ‘authentic’ and ‘unique’. Women’s soccer, which has been in EA’s soccer games since FIFA 16, is now also coming to FUT mode. In addition, EA has exclusive agreements with the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
Tweakers will be attending EA’s reveal event and will provide first impressions of the game at a later date.
