Berlin (German news agency) According to their own statements, 37 percent of Germans find a company less likeable if they use the familiar name. This is shown by a current survey by the opinion research institute Forsa on behalf of RTL and ntv. On the other hand, 21 percent find it good.
Younger people in particular would like to be spoken to on an above-average basis: 54 percent say that this makes a company more likeable for them. The distinction according to the type of company or institution is also striking. While addressing yourself with “Du” is okay for most customers (31 percent) or even particularly likeable (28 percent), especially in online retail, banks, authorities, medical facilities and insurance companies form the contrast.
Here, a “you” is clearly preferred: 81 percent and 84 percent clearly want to be addressed as a customer at a bank or authority. For doctors it is 70 percent. In retail, 57 percent prefer the “you,” 21 percent like the “you,” and 22 percent have no preference.
63 percent of 18 to 29 year olds would like it if there were no distinction between Duzen and Siezen in Germany – similar to English. A total of 1,002 people were interviewed for the survey on July 11 and 12.
