Only recently did FC Barcelona go empty-handed in the race for the Turkish super talent Arda Güler – but the Catalans can now look forward to the commitment of another offensive youngster: The champions announced Vitor Roque’s move on Wednesday morning. The attacker, coming from CA Paranaense, has signed a contract until 2030/31.
President Joan Laporta had previously revealed the move in an interview with Mundo Deportivo. As SPORT1 had already reported at the end of June, the transfer fee should total 45 million euros.
Because of Barca’s high personnel costs – La Liga prescribes an upper limit – the 18-year-old will probably appear for the Catalans in winter at the earliest. “We have a feasibility plan and that is for January or June unless circumstances improve, which can still happen,” said the Barcelona boss.
When the transfer was announced, the club said that Roque “is expected to join the club for the 2024/25 season”.
Unlike a right-back and two midfielders, who are due to switch to FCB this summer, the club is in no hurry on this matter either. Because Roque should inherit Robert Lewandowski in the long term.
His style of play, however, compares him to another No9 in Barca’s history. “He has a lot of power and, although he’s still very young, you can compare him to Ronaldo, who we had with a spectacular force of nature. He’s strong and he’s Brazilian,” explained Laporta.
But even without the Ronaldo heir, his club is a bit ahead of the national competition from his point of view – including the eternal rival Real Madrid: “We have a better team than Madrid, and individually we are a lot better than our competitors,” he explained 61-year-old interviewed by Sport.
Ironically, Blaugrana will create something in common with Blancos in the coming season. Because Barcelona will wear white jerseys.
“It’s more of a commercial thing because we had kits of all colors and we ran out of colors,” Laporta explains. But he doesn’t see it as a provocation – even if the dress could celebrate its premiere in preparation for the royal team.
