Russian State Company Rostec Investigated for Financing War in Ukraine and Seizure of Antonov Aircraft

The Russian state company Rostec can whistle at its Antonov An-140 that arrived in Ukraine for maintenance before the outbreak of war. Ukraine seized the cargo plane. It is not the first time that another country has appropriated an Antonov aircraft.

In all likelihood, the Air Force or Navy of Russia is the owner of the An-140. The security service is investigating Rostec on the basis of Article 110-2 of the Ukrainian Penal Code. It is being investigated whether the company finances the war on the Russian side. For example, Rostec could possibly produce weapons that Russia uses for its attacks on Ukraine. Reports would according to FL360 suggest that the Ukrainian Higher Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) has transferred the An-140 to the Ukrainian tax authorities. The device is worth about 3.7 million euros.

Other seizure

It is not the first time that an Antonov aircraft from Russia has been seized. A Volga-Dnepr An-124 arrived in Canada just before the war in Ukraine. When sanctions were announced in retaliation for the Russian invasion by Western countries, the An-124 was left with nowhere to go. Aircraft from Russia were no longer allowed to enter a large number of airspaces. A flight from Toronto to Russia was therefore not possible. The machine was chained on Canadian territory for a long time. In April this year, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyal announced that the An-124 had been given to Ukraine, which was confirmed by the Canadian government in mid-June.
