Magdeburg (dpa) – Hundreds of schoolchildren take part in learning camps in Saxony-Anhalt during the summer holidays and study math, German or English. “In order to reduce the learning deficits caused by the pandemic and the negative psychosocial effects on schoolchildren,” there are five-day holiday learning camps, as the Ministry of Education announced. Around 208,000 schoolchildren from Saxony-Anhalt had their last day of school last Wednesday.
“During these summer holidays, 35 courses are offered for up to 700 students,” said a spokeswoman. There are four lessons per day. What is new is that there are now career orientation events at some locations.
The state has been running the holiday learning camps in cooperation with the Saxony-Anhalt state association of the German Youth Hostel Association and the state association of adult education centers since the 2021 summer holidays. According to the information, Saxony-Anhalt is using the “Corona Saxony-Anhalt Special Fund” program to ensure that measures to deal with learning and skills deficits are compensated for by 2027 – the program also includes the learning camps.
