Xbox already has good moderation when it comes to online harassment and toxic comments, but so far this has been limited to text. Fortunately, this is about to change.
Xbox Wire reveals that Xbox Insiders will soon get a new feature that makes it easy to report violent and toxic players, even when using voice chat. Microsoft explains that this gives Xbox players “the ability to record a 60-second video clip of an in-game event that they believe violates our Community Standards and submit it as evidence to the Xbox Safety Team for review”.
Xbox player Secret Asian 29 says:
“Xbox is once again leading the way in gamer experience. By taking action to reduce toxicity that is usually very difficult to track, players of all ages, genders and backgrounds can be confident that Xbox supports them.”
Another Xbox player named CamicaziBoss adds:
“As a woman online, I’m often silent in multiplayer environments to avoid offense and harassment. I’m happy for features like this, which can help give people like me a voice back. No one should miss out on interacting with other players because they afraid to say anything.”
Initially, this is only in English, but Microsoft has already confirmed that more languages are on the way. It usually takes about two months from when Xbox Insiders get a new feature until it’s officially launched, so we can expect the new tool to arrive this fall.
