Manchester United won a positive result in his first 2023 pre-season game. MU frustrates Leeds United with a final score of 2-0.
The pre-season match between MU vs Leeds was held at the Ullevaal Stadium, Oslo, Norway on Wednesday (12/7/2023). New Red Devils signing Mason Mount started and played half of the game.
Both teams played equally strong without a goal until half-time. MU’s victory was determined by goals from two young players, Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill after halftime.
In the next match, MU is scheduled to face Olympique Lyon in Edinburgh on July 19. Meanwhile, Leeds takes on AS Monaco on July 22.
New first opportunity created in the 10th minute. Hannibal Mejbri’s shot from the middle of the penalty box was pushed over by Kristoffer Klaesson. Amad Diallo chased the ball but his finish went over the edge.
Four minutes later, Mason Mount tested Klaesson with a low kick. The ball is pushed aside, while the offside flag is raised.
Leeds’ counterattack troubled MU. Mejbri made a crucial interception in the middle of the penalty box to keep Luis Sinisterra’s shot from reaching Georginio Rutter.
Just before halftime, Amad Diallo’s shot from outside the penalty box was still too high. The 0-0 score lasted until the first half was over.
Leeds United threatened first in the second half. Lewis Bate’s corner kick was greeted by Pascal Stuijk with a header, but the ball deviated from the top right corner of the MU goal.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 67th minute. Noam Emeran brought MU to lead over Leeds 1-0.
Isak Hansen-Aaroen’s through ball was received by Emeran in the penalty box. Emeran finished with a low left-footed shot into the bottom corner of the Leeds goal.
Leeds responded by launching successive attacks. Daniel James’ curling shot was still too high, as was Joe Gelhardt’s effort.
MU finally managed to increase its lead to 2-0 over Leeds. It was Joe Hugill’s turn to get his name on the scoreboard in the 81st minute.
Emeran’s cross defended the Leeds defense in the middle of the penalty box, the ball was received by Hugill who was out of control. Hugill easily finished with a right-footed shot into the middle of the goal.
In the remaining time of the game, no more goals were created. MU is entitled to a 2-0 victory.
