If it’s not unanimous, it’s close. No less than twelve leaders of local authorities in the Grand Est have co-signed a collective letter, addressed to Clément Beaune, the Minister of Transport. At the heart of their common claim, committed behind Franck Leroy, boss of the executive, the link between Lorraine and the south of France. The mayors of Nancy, Metz, Épinal, Thionville, supported by the presidents of the departments of Meurthe-et-Moselle, Moselle, Meuse and Vosges as well as the presidents of urban communities claim with one voice that the State clearly undertakes to compensate for the absence or lack of lines in the direction of Lyon. They are thus calling for “the reactivation of a TET train (territorial balance train) between the Lorraine and the south of France which compensates for the non-return of the TGV” but also the financing of the creation of this service and its financial support by the State as well as numerous measures such as the sustainability of this link.
Two round trips daily
A few days earlier, Clément Beaune had also been questioned by Senator Olivier Jacquin on the same subject. “The success of the Lorraine-South of France service cannot be guaranteed without action state volunteer including through an intervention aimed at improving the performance of rail infrastructure to ensure structuring and efficient interregional links for our territory” mention the elected representatives of Lorraine in their approach.
Elected officials recall in their letter that during the summer of 2018 SNCF Voyageurs had informed elected officials of this deletion at the time, justified by work between 2019 and 2023. “It was then planned that the TGV would return to this territory at the end of the works” they recall today. Those who feared that this temporary suspension would open the horizon to a possible permanent eclipse, remember their predictions. The Grand Est region and the communities of the Lorraine furrow require two daily round trips to Lyon and Dijon.
