The excessive transfer anger of numerous clubs from the Saudi Pro League gave the impression that said clubs were above FIFA regulations – but now with Al Nassr a very special club is likely to have come into the line of fire of the world association.
Because superstar Cristiano Ronaldo’s club has now apparently been given a draconian penalty. As the English “Mirror” reports, FIFA has imposed a transfer ban on the Saudi club until winter 2024. The reason for this? A transfer from 2018.
Is the Musa deal fatal for Ronaldo and Co.?
The Ronaldo club paid a total of 16.5 million euros for the services of Nigerian Ahmed Musa in August 2018 – the attacker switched from Premier League club Leicester City to Al Nassr. After two years and 60 games, however, Musa was already gone – only performance-related bonuses remained that ex-club Leicester would have been entitled to.
Al Nassr has still not paid off said 460,000 euros in debt – despite an official FIFA ruling from 2021. This could now be the club’s undoing.
Nevertheless, there is reason for hope for the CR7 club – Al Nassr is said to have given in by now and be ready to transfer the sum immediately. This would allow the penalty to be reversed.
In the current transfer window, the club caused a sensation with the transfer of Inter veteran Marcelo Brozovic.
