Hello-hello, reading people! Welcome to this video where we will learn about 30 curiosities about ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks 1, 2, 3 and 4’ The first film was released in 2007, becoming a moderate success at the box office, raising more than 360 million. It was directed by Tim Hill. The same director of ‘Garfield 2’, ‘Hop’, and the new SpongeBob movie. By the year 1958, a record company called “Liberty Records” was close to bankruptcy. It was then that Ross Bagdasarian convinced the company to release a novelty song titled “Witch Doctor.” The single managed to be a success and was able to save the company. And so “Alvin and the Chipmunks” were born, initially thought to be a virtual band, and it was later that, due to its great potential, several series and movies emerged. When Dave is in the kitchen the squirrels hide under the bowls, obviously they had to be moved somehow. What was done was to use a white sewing thread to pull each one of the cups.
In fact, if you look closely, the thread is slightly noticeable near the red cup. Ross Bagdasarian, the creator of the squirrels, had the stage name David Seville. That is why the main human character bears this name. And as for the squirrels, his names come from the executives at Liberty Records, back then. When Dave finds out that Simon has vision problems, he puts the glasses of a Santa doll on him. Ehh, yes, as silly as that sounds, it’s highly unlikely that the doll’s glasses had prescription lenses to begin with. Let alone glasses that were exactly what Simon needed. But hey, you had to put the glasses on him to make him look more like the original caricature of him.
As the chipmunks perform the Christmas song, we see Dave playing the piano. This piano belonged to the creator himself, Ross Bagdasarian. And it was in this where he composed the original songs of the squirrels. And if you can see, Dave’s house number is… 1958. A reference to the year the song “Witch Doctor” was released, and in turn, the creation of the squirrels. At various times, they show us that the squirrels like to watch the SpongeBob series. This was something that the director, Tim Hill, wanted to add. Since, after all, he has been the writer of more than 230 episodes of said cartoon. In the trailer for the tape, it looked like Alvin was the one who ate Theodoro’s “chocolate”. In addition to that we saw the characters with their characteristic clothing and with a slightly different animation. But in the movie, at that moment, they still don’t have their clothes, and the one who eats them is Simón.
In the supermarket Dave meets a woman, this is actress Beth Riesgraf, who, at that time, was the fiancée of actor Jason Lee. She has recently been seen in the series ‘Stranger Things’, playing Billy’s mother. When the chipmunks are filming the Crunchy Nibbles commercial, there’s a cameo appearance by Ross Bagdasarian Jr, the creator’s son. Being this, the camera operator. Ian’s last name is “Hawke”. A pun on “falcon” in English. Something quite appropriate, since he is the villain, and in real life, these birds are great predators of squirrels.
When one of the guards chases Alvin, he charms him and tells him the following: Referencing John McClane in the ‘Die Hard’ franchise. The film, as expected, had very negative reviews. But Fox discovered a small gold mine. So they were encouraged to launch its sequel. Which did pretty well at the box office. Managing to raise more than 440 million. This was directed by someone else, Betty Thomas; which she directed the ‘Doctor Dolittle’ tape. In this sequel, they get rid of Dave as quickly as possible. And it is that the actor was very busy with his series “My Name is Earl”. So the writers came up with this little accident, so that Dave didn’t have to appear as much on screen, and of course, due to his absence, they included a new character, played by Zachary Levi, who we’ve seen in movies like ‘Big Momma 2’, ‘Thor: Raknarok’ and of course, ‘Shazam’. In the 1987 film, Brittany sarcastically suggests sending a baby penguin to Antarctica via Fedex.
And in this sequel, that’s referenced. Well, that’s the way they get to the studio. Later when the chipmunks introduce themselves to Ian, Jeanette mentions the name “Olivia”, which may remind us of the 80’s animated series, where a girl named Olivia was the one who took care of the chipmunks in their early years. When Ian takes the chipmunks to a hotel, they see a chiuhauha, thinking it’s a celebrity. This is alluding to the ‘Beverly Hills Chihuahua’ tape. And in the original language, Eleanor greets you in Spanish. In the scene when they play dodgeball, Alvin makes a reference to Robert De Niro in ‘Taxi Driver’.
When Toby goes to school to look for the squirrels, they show us that, on his nerves, they show us that, on his nerves, Then he grabs the trumpet, and somehow breaks the same battery again. Something that is not possible, since she was already broken. But hey, this just goes to show that the scene had to be filmed multiple times. And it seems that nobody in the production noticed this detail or simply did not give it so much importance. One of the girls we see at school is played by Bridgit Mendler, who will surely be remembered for her role in ‘Good Luck, Charlie!’ or ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’. And we also see Chris Warren, the guy with the Crème Brûlée in ‘High School Musical’ Who curiously came to appear in ‘Good Luck, Charlie!’ as a fleeting love interest for Teddy. The bird that squirrels run into at the zoo was completely real and was being lured, behind the scenes, by a person.
And of course, it’s understandable that the bird couldn’t really see the squirrels, since they were animated afterwards. And it is that yes, it is already difficult for the actors to imagine the squirrels, well… it is more complicated for an animal that does not even have an idea of what is happening. And well, now we come to the third installment. That he would change director again. This time it was Mike Mitchel, the same one who directed ‘Sky High’ and ‘Shrek for Ever’. This ended up raising 342 million. The idea of squirrels being stranded on an island The idea of squirrels being stranded on an island Actor David Cross has admitted that he only agreed to be in these films because the pay was really good. In fact, all of this helped him pay for a new house. But let’s say you reached a limit. A point in which, really, he did not want to continue participating. “The most unpleasant experience he has had in his professional life.” And, he even invited people not to see the movie. That is why we did not see him in the fourth installment afterwards.
Alvin wears a white tuxedo that includes a red rose, referencing Sean Connery in ‘Goldfinger’. And of course, he says the popular james bond catchphrase. And on the island there are references to ‘Indiana Jones’, ‘The Lord of the Rings’, ‘The Castaway’ and… ‘My Neighbor Totoro’? Mm, maybe… but hey, there’s not much left to point out in this third part. So let’s move on to the last installment. The fourth film was released in 2015, and, like the previous ones, there was a change of director. this time it was directed by Walt Becker, known for these films. And, in terms of box office revenue, this was the one that managed to raise the least. Since they decided to release it at the same time as ‘Star Wars: Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’.
Which did not help them. Well, that was the highest grossing film of 2015. So they had no chance against this franchise. When they are at the party with Redfo, we see that a Skater has a stereo brand skateboard. This brand was founded by Jason Lee, who plays Dave, since he is also a professional skater. To achieve the scene where the monkey hugs Theodoro, a small plush doll was placed right next to the cage. The monkey would be trained to hug him, and then in post-production they would animate Theodoro. Resulting in a convincing scene, at least more than that of the bird. Due to the absence of Ian in this installment, they had to create a new antagonist. Agent James. And we got some cameos from other young stars. Such as Bella Thorne, who will remember her from ‘Shake it Up’, or Laura Marano, known for ‘Austin & Ally’.
We even see little Jeremy Taylor, who we would later know better for his participation in ‘it’. When the agent starts beating Alvin in the bar, the latter does his Neo impression in ‘The Matrix’. And, later on, the agent imitates Jack Nicholson in ‘The Shining’. After the harsh criticism that the 4 films had, and, above all, due to the box office receipts that were declining, the studio decided not to continue betting on more sequels. Ending this franchise, at least in theaters. Since they still had another animated series.
But anyway… what do you think of these movies? But anyway… what do you think of these movies? Let me know everything in the comments.
