The UAE has renewed its emphasis on the importance of making progress in the chemical weapons file in Syria, and in all files related to resolving the Syrian crisis.
It also reaffirmed its firm position of rejecting and expressly condemning the use of chemical weapons, under any circumstances, by anyone and anywhere, as their use constitutes a flagrant violation of the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention and international law.
This came in the statement of the UAE delegation to the Security Council regarding the chemical weapons file in the Syrian Arab Republic, delivered by Counselor Muhammad Bastaki, and published by the Permanent Mission of the State to the United Nations on its website yesterday.
During the statement, Bastaki focused on two issues:
First: A meaningful dialogue between the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and Syria remains essential, “if we want to witness tangible progress in this file.”
He added, “We reiterate the need to work in accordance with the technical principles on which the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was founded, foremost of which is compatibility and non-politicization.” He added, “We take note of the recent report issued by the fact-finding mission on the Khirbet al-Masasneh incident.”
Second: The threats of chemical terrorism remain among the important challenges that require adequate attention, especially with the continuation of ISIS in its terrorist attacks, without hesitation in using the available means and weapons to restore its control in Syria, which constitutes a serious threat not only to the security and stability of Syria. , but the entire region.
