The NBA continues to innovate and bring exciting new things to basketball fans. Following the recent Draft and the start of the Summer League, the league announced the creation of a new mid-season tournament called the NBA Cup. This competition will distribute a total prize of 18 million dollars and promises to add even more excitement to the regular season.
The NBA Cup tournament will consist of a group stage divided into six zones, each made up of five teams. Subsequently, direct elimination matches will take place, culminating in the definition of the champion in Las Vegas. “The city knows how to receive big events”said Adam Silver, commissioner of the NBA, highlighting the choice of Las Vegas as the final venue.

The idea of this tournament has been under consideration for years within the league offices. “It’s a concept that’s been buzzing around league offices for 15 years.”Silver admitted. “It’s not a new concept in the sport. For those who follow international soccer, it’s a long tradition to have tournaments within the season… So we thought it was the perfect opportunity for a global league like the NBA.”
Regarding the distribution of prizes, the Winning team will receive $500,000, while the runner-up will get $200,000. Semifinalists who fail to advance will receive $100,000, and quarterfinalists will each get $50,000.
The matches of this exciting tournament will begin on November 3 and will be played on Tuesdays and Fridays throughout the month of November. It should be noted that on November 7 there will be no games due to the elections in the United States.
