Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wished his US counterpart, Joe Biden, good luck in his campaign for re-election in 2024, during a friendly talk to them on the sidelines of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit.
Erdogan told Biden when the two leaders met on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Lithuania, “Now, you are preparing for the upcoming elections… I would also like to take this opportunity to wish you the best of luck.”
“Thank you. I look forward to meeting you in the next five years,” Biden replied, laughing.
The friendly exchange of conversations witnessed by the journalists represented a shift in the sometimes tense relations between the two NATO members after Erdogan dropped his opposition to Sweden’s bid to join the military alliance, as part of a series of steps that pleased the United States and angered Russia.
