Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The founder of Warung Pintar has a new profession as a startup investor. Then, what will happen to the “warung technology” startup that had created a stir in Jakarta.
Warung Pintar founder and former CEO, Agung Bezharie, was announced as the new partner at Antler. He will lead the activities of the global venture capital company in Indonesia.
Unlike other venture capitalists who invest in companies, Antler recruits professionals and workers in technology companies as “co-founders” to be mentored and introduced to each other in starting new startups.
Antler targets to invest in 30 startups in Indonesia throughout 2023. Currently, Antler has invested in 792 companies in 25 cities around the world.
“After going through the experience of building and developing Warung Pintar, I now want to support and invest in other entrepreneurs,” Agung said in a press release received CNBC Indonesia.
Agung founded Warung Pintar in 2019. The company, which started as a technology provider for stalls and grocery stores, then expanded to become a provider of FMCG distribution platforms.
Warung Pintar has also managed to raise millions of US dollars from well-known investors including SMDV, OVO, Triputra, SMDV, and East Ventures before being acquired by Sirclo in 2022.
The acquisition of Warung Pintar is part of Sirclo’s steps to complete e-commerce ecosystem support services. Previously, the company that provided the online shop support platform had acquired Orami and Bizzy.
To CNBC Indonesia, Agung stated that he had left his position in the management of Sirclo and Warung Pintar but would still be retained as an advisor at Warung Pintar.
