Samsung Flip5 and Fold5 Leaks: Teardrop Hinge Design and Display Gap Concerns

photo: Samsung

Samsung is once again leaking mockups and functional pieces of the Flip5 and Fold5 just two weeks before the unveiling of the flexible phones. At the same time, the mockup of the Flip still shows a large hinge gap in the closed state, which the new drop hinge was supposed to get rid of. However, it must be said that this mockup does not exactly correspond to the real Flip, and for example the functional Fold5 on the recent leak has a hinge without a gap.

We’ve known for months that both of Samsung’s flip phones are set to get the new teardrop hinge used by its Chinese competitors this year. This will be one of the few improvements and should arrange a smaller notch in the display, and in the closed state we should no longer see a large gap between the halves of the display. Now everything should fit together nicely. However, yesterday, Leakspinner’s mockup of the Galaxy Z Flip5 still scared Samsung fans with its design.

The design of the mockup corresponds to all the photos and renders that we already know well. We can see the matte glass back and the large display with a protrusion around the cameras. However, the important thing is that when the mock-up was closed in the attached video, you can still see a large gap between the halves of the display on the Flip5. Thus, it seems that the phone will definitely not have a teardrop hinge.

However, it must be said that this is really only a mockup, which can also still be built on the Flip4 mockup and may not even be official. After all, the real Flip5 is supposed to have, for example, the glass around the external display always black, regardless of the color of the back, and this is not the case with the mockup. So it’s hard to say how it will end up and you can’t completely panic. In addition, shortly after the Flip, a functional real piece of the sister Fold5 appeared on the Internet, and its two halves are already touching each other nicely. So for now, let’s sit back and see if we learn more before July 26, when Samsung’s flexible phone is unveiled.
