Hyundai Exter: Affordable Compact SUV Launched in India – Price, Variants, and Features

Hyundai Exter officially launched in India. This car will play in the compact SUV segment and compete with the Tata Punch and Citroen C3. The Hyundai Exter is marketed at a very affordable price, starting at Rs 599,900 or the equivalent of Rp. 110 million.

In addition to the manual variant, there is also an AMT automatic transmission option which is sold from Rs 796,980 (Rp. 146.8 million) and also the CNG variant which is sold from Rs. 823,990 or the equivalent of Rp. 151.7 million.

The Hyundai Exter has the appearance of a compact hatchback, but with an SUV-style ground clearance. In addition to ground clearance, the impression of an SUV in this car is present through the addition of skid plates on the front and rear bumpers, as well as black accents on the fenders and sides.

The Exter also features a separate headlamp arrangement with H-shaped LED daytime running lights and an LED projector, resembling the H-shaped LED insert at the front.

Moving on to the interior, the Exter adopts the dashboard design of the Grand i10 Nios model, and includes a fully digital instrument console from the i20 and Verna, round AC vents, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control panel, and a center console from the Grand i10 Nios.

Even though it’s small, the Hyundai Exter has a relatively complete selection of features, such as a start-stop button, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and a sunroof panel. Then there is also a wireless charger, rear AC vent, tire pressure monitoring system or TPMS, and a built-in dashcam.

The top-spec SX(O) Connect variant also offers Hyundai’s connected car feature set. Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, rear view camera, electronic stability control and hill start assist.

The Hyundai Exter is powered by a 1.2-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox options. This engine produces a maximum power of 83 PS and a maximum torque of 113.8 Nm. This engine is the same as that used in the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Aura, i20 and Venue. Exter also offers the option of a CNG fueled engine, which produces 69 PS of power and 95.2 Nm of torque when operating in CNG mode.
