Urgent Appeal: French National Blood Establishment Seeks Plasma Donors – Save Lives and Treat Diseases

The EFS, the French National Blood Establishment, is making an urgent appeal to plasma donors. All centers in France are concerned. Plasma is used to treat hematological, neurological or even dermatological diseases.

Plasma donation is a gesture that can save lives and help treat patients. Different from and longer than blood donation, plasma donation collects the liquid in which the blood cells are bathed. It is used in many diseases and in hematology treatments, of course, but also in neurological, dermatological or even rheumatological pathologies.

Each year, 10,342 people make one or more plasma donations in New Aquitaine, 55% are men, 45% women. Unlike blood donation, which is limited to six times a year for men and four times for women, you can donate your plasma 24 times a year, that is to say every two weeks.

After a preliminary medical interview, your blood is taken and passed through a machine to separate the plasma from the other blood components. The blood is then returned to you after the plasma has been removed. The operation lasts about sixty minutes. After the donation, it is recommended to hydrate a lot to avoid a slight discomfort.
