Winners’ Reactions at the Pointes d’Or Minim Competition in Toulon

Find the reactions of the winners of the Pointes d’Or, the competition bringing together the best minims disputed in Toulon last weekend.

Saskia Diagana (Nice CAA), 138 points, winner in the minimum 2 (athletes born in 2008) and in the classic triathlon (one run – one jump – one throw):
“I’m super happy: I broke my record in the triathlon, the pole vault and the 200m hurdles. It wasn’t easy, there was a lot of headwind on the first day and the pole vault was delayed for a long time. Winning this year was my goal for the season. For next year, as a cadet, I would like to continue the combined events and the pole vault, it is my favorite event, with the hurdles. And attempt a selection for the EYOF (note: the European Youth Olympic Festival) if there is an edition – well, the season when there will be (note: it will be in 2025, after that of this year, end July in Slovenia). But for now, there is still the French League Cup next week in Albi. »

Maëva Foret (Evreux AC), 137 points, winner in minim 1 (athletes born in 2009) and in the race-oriented triathlon (two races and a competition):
“I’m very proud of myself as a freshman, really. It was also my first Pointes d’Or. I am happy with my first place despite some disappointments, such as not having broken a record. But there was a lot of wind, and running with three meters of headwind over the hurdles, it’s not great… I also had a good long jump, but good. I feel that I have a huge margin for improvement, especially since I started athletics recently, in chick 1, and with a lot of breaks. I started because I could run faster than the boys in school and the sports teachers told me to go to a club, but I had never done any sports before. I admit that all this amazes me a little sometimes, but I stay in my place: I am only minimal 1. I also know that I owe all of this to my excellent coaches, Victor Moussel who has followed me from the start and Wilfried Boulineau, since this year. It is thanks to them that I was able to achieve performances like 1.70 m at the height this season. For the future? I don’t have too many goals, apart from winning the Pointes d’Or next year. I would also like to start the 200m hurdles, reach 6.30m in length, go for the French record in the 80m hurdles…”

Rémi Mourié (Tarn Sud Athlé), 143 points, winner in minim 2 (athletes born in 2008) and in the jump-oriented triathlon:
“I’m very happy, especially to have passed the 7 m in length. I am 7.05 m, but there was a little too much wind (+3 m/s). Winning was my goal coming here and I did more than enough. I had already won in first year last season. I’ve been doing athletics for nine years now, and there I train three times a week, in Castres. I’m thinking of specializing in jumps, but I’m still going to try combined next year. Make a career? It’s possible, yes, I think… But for the moment, there is the French League Cup next week. And the cadets need me right after, in Châteauroux, to run the 4×100 m at the French championships. »

Maïdis Gorrillot (Dominican Athletics), 137 points, winner in minim 1 (athletes born in 2009):
“I’m really very happy, it’s the first time I’ve done a performance like this. I was aiming for 3rd place eventually, but given the lead the others had, it seemed complicated. I had a record of 114 points in the triathlon and now I’m doing 126, I think it’s the French championship effect. I’m 6.94 m at the length but there was too much wind (editor’s note: +4.6 m/s), it’s a shame… For the moment I train twice a week, and I play a times in basketball, and I will continue, yes. Later ? I would like to be an airline pilot. And in athletics? I can’t imagine making a career, no, I’m just doing it for fun…”
