Did you expect, once elected, the complexity of the function of mayor?
Clemence Pouget : “Yes, broadly, but, there, we are in addition to the Covid mayors, the war mayors in Ukraine, the inflation mayors, the materials increase mayors, etc. We had to adapt. Adaptability is, moreover, the term that best characterizes the mandate. Then, we discovered the administrative intricacies and learned that it was necessary to respect certain rules, in particular the timing. For example, the major Val Joyeux rehabilitation project. We thought it would go fast. Three years later, the work will only begin…”
In your program, you emphasized your desire to promote ecological transition. What were your main concrete measures?
“We have put in place a reasoned and reasonable development in balance between demographic evolution and the environment. Our future PLU [Plan local d’urbanisme] will therefore comply with the standards of the Climate Resilience law, with the aim of reducing land consumption by 2031. We have also committed to upgrading public facilities: thermal insulation of schools, creation of cool islands , a green courtyard at the Victor-Hugo school or even a nature bubble at Schuman. At the same time, we continued to plant trees at the Aeropark. Since the beginning of the mandate, we have planted 3,700 trees! »
Another major project is the road network. Why such a rush?
“Some coatings were in a catastrophic state; also, a dozen streets have been redone. It had been more than ten years since there had been such an ambitious renovation program. In addition to the redevelopment of rue Anatole-France and rue Henri-Dunand, we have created two car parks on rue de la République and two are to come on rue Anatole-France and rue Victor-Hugo. In all, there will be 100 new parking spaces. Our desire is to offer free to contribute to the proper functioning of local commerce. »
You also wanted to offer entertainment again in the city. Mission accomplished ?
“With the return of the EuphorYques, the creation of Yutz-Plage and a more eclectic program at the AmphY, with more local artists, it seems to me so. These are mostly completely free events and we want to keep them going. »
You are also vice-president of the Portes de France-Thionville urban community. Have you managed to make your place in this mastodon, destined to become a giant?
“Even if I do not always agree with the president, Pierre Cuny, the mayor of Thionville, in particular for the future route of the Bus with high level of service, we are working in all intelligence to develop the Thionville territory for its good and the good of its inhabitants. I therefore voted in all conscience for the merger with the community of Val de Fensch because I am convinced that this is an opportunity for our territory to position itself strategically between Metz and Luxembourg, and thus to propose projects in terms of health, mobility or even higher education. »
Subsidiary question: do you intend to represent yourself in 2026?
“There is indeed a strong chance that I will return. I just need to tell my husband first. [rires]… »
