Wopke Hoekstra is not available for the leadership of the CDA. He says he made the decision a long time ago.
Hoekstra also thinks it is not obvious that his name will be on the electoral list for the House of Representatives.
“That actually goes back to the conversation I had with you three years ago, when I said that I feel more like an administrator than a professional politician,” the outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs told political reporter Wouter de Winther of The Telegraph.

“I then said no to being the party leader, but later I was strongly appealed to do it. I have always felt an enormous commitment to serve the public good and therefore accepted it. But in essence I haven’t changed.”
‘The criticism was sometimes justified’
Hoekstra says that the criticism he received within the party played no role in his decision. “No way. You always get criticism as a party leader,” says the politician. “And fair is fair, in a number of cases it was justified.”
“At the same time, you shouldn’t let that drive you crazy. The pressing appeal to become a list leader is not there now. There are all kinds of young talents who can do it. It is also not that the party is leaderless now, as it was a few years ago ago. But you also have to make your own decision, also with my wife Liselot.”
Hoekstra wants to finish his caretaker ministry. He wouldn’t say anything about what comes next. “That’s not for now.”
