Books to Learn: Promoting Education and Equality in Argentina

In reference, the director of Secondary Education of the General Council of Education (CGE), Laura Giles, said that “Books to Learn is part of the framework of a national policy that seeks to fulfill the right to education, the fundamental objective of our Plan Provincial Education 2019-2023”.

At another point, the official highlighted: “We emphasize the importance of each student having their book, that they can learn at home, with their family. We are convinced that these actions favor the quality of learning, reduce inequality and encourage the imagination and critical thinking of our young people”.

Selection process

The National Advisory Commission (CAN), made up of specialists from the 24 jurisdictions, makes the recommendations of the titles and the Jurisdictional Selection selects the material that will reach each province among the books that were recommended.

Distribution in Entre Ríos

In 2022, kindergartens received more than 19,000 books. Boys and girls from 3, 4 and 5-year-old rooms received copies of the collection that included 151 titles from 52 different publishers with a variety of 84 authors and 33 national and international authors, including Adela Basch, Liliana Bodoc, Isol, Gustavo Roldán and Didier Lévy, among others.

There were 105,690 books for 41,850 students from 1,094 kindergartens, with an investment of 64 million pesos. Two personal literary works were distributed to take from the garden to the house and vice versa. There was also material for the faculty and a complete collection for the library of each kindergarten. In 2023, another 5,200 were distributed in the supervision of the Victoria, Nogoyá, Diamante, Villaguay, Paraná and Concordia departments.

In Primary Education, in 2022, 193,743 books were delivered to more than 100,000 students from the 1,105 schools. In the first semester of 2023, 359,590 copies were received and this proposal contemplates the delivery of a Mathematics book and a Language book to each student, to be used both in the classroom and at home. In turn, each training institute and each teacher have the same books to develop the learning process together.

The selection of texts includes 112 titles from 15 publishers in which more than 560 authors, authors and content developers and 495 illustrators, designers and designers worked.

The delivery is made by the Ocasa mail company directly to the institution and at no cost. A member of the management team must confirm the receipt with the seal of the school, the only document that will allow making the pertinent claims if necessary.
