Israeli Stabbed in Alleged Anti-Semitic Attack in New York: Hate Crime against Orthodox Jew in Crown Heights

Israeli stabbed in alleged anti-Semitic attack in New York

The two assailants allegedly asked him if he was Jewish before stabbing him in the arm with a screwdriver.

An Israeli was stabbed in New York on Friday night in a suspected anti-Semitic attack, according to Israeli media.

The student, a Hasidic Jew, was walking through Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood on Shabbat when two suspicious men approached him and asked if he was Jewish, to which he replied in the affirmative. The attackers then stabbed him in the arm with a screwdriver.

He was released from the hospital on Saturday morning in good condition.

Yaacov Berman, a representative of the Jewish community in the Crown Heights neighborhood, reported the incident via social media after being informed of the attack by the victim.

“It is currently being investigated as a hate crime. According to the victim, he was questioned about his Jewish identity. Although visibly traumatized, the victim expressed gratitude that he did not suffer more serious injuries,” Berman wrote.

“This incident is deeply concerning, and we have full confidence in the ability of the NYPD to fully investigate and apprehend the perpetrators.”he added.

The Anti-Defamation League confirmed the incident, stating that “We are aware of this incident and are contacting law enforcement and community partners.”

A report released late last year on anti-Semitic crimes in New York found that 94% of anti-Jewish attacks were against Orthodox Jews.
