The wedding season has started. We talk about the backstage of working at Polish weddings with Przemek, who has been working as an operator for 14 years
She reveals that although there are less and less fights at weddings, they still occur in smaller towns and in the countryside
– At one wedding, the groom had a fight with his uncle, who started to pull his wife’s hand. 30 guests joined the brawl. Some were on the side of the uncle, the other on the side of the young one. We ran away from there because we were afraid that they would attack us too, reveals the operator
Przemek says that he was at a wedding where the bride and groom quarreled with their parents about inviting the Song and Dance Ensemble without their consent. – The guests had fun, and the young ones sat furious until the end of the party – he recalls

30-year-old Przemek made his first wedding film when he was 16 years old. “It was a complete accident. I was making a music video for my friend’s song and added some shots I found on the internet. The author of these shots contacted me and said that I used them without his permission. I apologized to him. He said he liked the clip and would like to offer me a job. He was involved in shooting films at weddings. And that’s how I got my first job she says. Przemek did not plan to work in the wedding industry because he never liked disco-polo music. – Only when I started shooting films at weddings, I noticed that this job gives me a lot of satisfaction. Thanks to her, I made a lot of friends. And I just got used to disco polo – says. She adds that the operator at the wedding “also plays the role of a psychologist who is with the bride and groom in difficult moments and must listen to them, comfort them or make them laugh”.
Fights at weddings: we ran away so they wouldn’t attack us too
Polish weddings are associated with disco-polo music, a country table, a photo booth and … fights. The 30-year-old recalls a party where a family row and a fight broke out.

The bride told the family man that she was dancing with her husband now and wanted a video of that moment, so she asked him to wait until they were done. But the uncle did not give up.
– reveals Przemek and adds that then the real fight began. – The other guests, instead of dispersing, joined the fight. Some were on the side of the uncle, others of the groom. And in the middle of the room, suddenly more than 30 people were fighting. My friend and I immediately took the equipment and ran away from there, because we were afraid that they would attack us too.
This is not the only fight the 30-year-old witnessed. Two other stories come to mind. Many in Kielce. A man had an argument with his wife and then with several other people. Finally, he took the car keys and left the room – says Przemek. The operator happened to be standing outside, so he warned him not to drive under the influence of alcohol.

Przemek recalls.
“I don’t think we understood each other. I pay for everything. You have to play it for me right now” said the father of the bride. The team was silent. The man finally joined Przemek. He told him that he had to play “Tango Milonga”. The operator replied that he would love to do it, but he would have to learn to play and sing quickly, because he does not do music. The band’s drummer laughed at his words. Then the bride’s father exploded. “He was in prison for 15 years. I’m going to kill you if you don’t play this song for me” he said and started smashing the plates on the nearest table. “Then the groom ran up and took him out of the room. Then we found out that he had gone home,” recalls the 30-year-old.

“The father of the bride suddenly lost consciousness”
Przemek talks about a tragedy that happened at one of the weddings that took place in the summer in Krakow. “It was a very hot day. A young couple came to the wedding, their parents welcomed them with bread and salt. And suddenly the father of the bride fainted. An ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital says the operator. After this event, all guests entered the room and waited for information from the hospital. “Nothing happened for an hour. There was no music playing, everyone sat in silence. And suddenly someone from the family announced that the father of the bride regained consciousness and feels fine. Only then did the wedding begin recalls the 30-year-old. A few hours later, the bride’s mother called her daughter and informed her that her father had died in the hospital. – That was the end of the wedding – reveals Przemek.
“His face turned purple and his knees buckled under him”
The operator recalls a wedding where the young couple was put in a very embarrassing situation. “The groom was much thinner than his wife. As they were entering the room, suddenly an uncle started shouting that the husband had to carry his wife over the threshold, because this is the tradition – says Przemek and reveals that after the uncle’s words, the room became tense.

Another “mistake” took place at a wedding near Warsaw. – It was a few years ago, when it was still fashionable to release pigeons under the church – reveals the operator. – A young couple was holding pigeons and suddenly dropped them up. They immediately fell to the ground right under the feet of the guests. It was a very strange scene he adds.

In Poland, the parents of the bride and groom often pay for weddings. Many of them believe that since they bear the costs, they have the right to impose their will on young people. Przemek reveals that such situations often lead to fights.
the operator recalls. During the party, a fight broke out between the young couple and their parents. – Before the oczepiny, the leader grabbed the microphone and announced that now a special surprise for the guests from the parents of the young ones. The Song and Dance Ensemble entered the hall and performed several folk songs. People had a great time, but the bride and groom were furious until the end of the wedding – says the 30-year-old.
Przemek reveals that at Polish weddings disco-polo reigns uninterruptedly, although young couples from big cities more and more often forbid DJs from playing songs by Zenon Martyniuk or the band Boys. – There are situations like this, but the guests usually demand disco-polo songs – she says and adds that when it comes to wedding trends, they are still fashionable drones, photo booths, and recently also rotating platforms serving to take serial photos.
