Queer Film and Queer Liberation: A Discussion with KGK Workers and Waffen der Kritik

Discuss queer film and queer liberation with KGK Workers and Waffen derkritik in Munich on July 13th!

Historical LGSM members at a film event at the British Film Institute in 2015. Picture: Get

When British miners fought back against the Thatcher government’s attacks in the 1980s, they received support from an unexpected quarter: the queer group Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) collected money and was also on site. In 2014, this story was released in cinemas under the name “Pride”.

As KGK Workers, together with the Marxist university group Waffen der Kritik, we want to dedicate an evening to queer cinema and also to the “real” activists who were immortalized in the film.

We want to look at the situation at the time, the political background of LGSM, talk about how we are fighting for queer liberation today – and of course celebrate queer film!

The event will last around 3 hours but is fairly easygoing – don’t expect a 3 hour presentation. We’ll provide snacks and popcorn!

You are welcome on your own, but you are welcome to bring friends, colleagues or people from the neighborhood with you.

We look forward to you!
