Michael van Gerwen convincingly won the Poland Darts Masters on Saturday. De Brabander was 8-3 too strong for Dimitri Van den Bergh in the final in Warsaw.
The 34-year-old Van Gerwen was broken in the opening leg, but recovered immediately. With a finish of 91, ‘Mighty Mike’ ran out to 3-1.
The year-old Van den Bergh (29) broke back, but Van Gerwen then led 5-2. The Dutchman never gave that lead away. Van Gerwen reached an impressive average of 113.22 per three arrows, compared to 101.07 for Van den Bergh.
Earlier in the day, Van Gerwen easily dealt with Luke Humphries and Michael Smith. With a fine average of 109.69, he beat Humphries, who won the European Darts Matchplay a week ago, 6-2. Van Gerwen then settled with Smith in a replay of the World Cup final: 7-3.
World champion Smith eliminated Danny Noppert in the quarterfinals: 6-4. De Fries gave away a 4-2 lead and recorded a much higher average than Smith: 103.36 compared to 97.43.

Van Gerwen will soon get braces and will have to go under the knife more often
Last month, Van Gerwen also won the title at the US Darts Masters in New York. A few weeks earlier, the triple world champion won the Premier League of Darts.
For Van Gerwen, the title in Poland is a boost. The number three in the world recently had to undergo a dental procedure. He will soon be fitted with braces, after which more operations will follow. Van Gerwen said he hopes that his performance will not suffer.
The Poland Darts Masters was on the darts calendar for the first time. The tournament is part of the World Series of Darts, which consists of seven events. The final of the World Series of Darts is in AFAS Live in Amsterdam in September.
