VfL Osnabrück’s Performance in the VW Cup: The Most Mature Team, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Takes the Win

Such tournaments with short games may only be of limited interest to the spectator, but coaches and players certainly draw their conclusions from them. In any case, VfL made a good impression, especially in the second game against Fortuna Düssledorf. In the end, the most mature team in the tournament, Fortuna, rightly won the VW Cup.
Next Friday at 4 p.m. in the training camp against FC Emmen and on 22.07. At 1:00 p.m. there will be a dress rehearsal at Schinkelberg against Viktoria Cologne. Both games will be broadcast live by the NOZ. More on this in the VfL podcast on Thursday at 7 p.m. on OS Radio 104.8.

Before the game

Like the Testspiel in Lotte, today’s short games are mainly interesting to see the new players and to be able to imagine a first basic formation.

The following players are currently available:
(italics: signings)

Track: Kuhn, Adamczyk, Böggemann (U19)
Defense: Aydin, Beerman, Gyamfi, Kleinhansl, Karademir (U19), beer
Midfield: Kunze, GnauseTesche, Wulff, Wiethaup,Thalhammer
Attack: ComtehNiemann, WriedtEngelhardt, Makridis, Kehl
(Chato, Haas, wahling Putaro and Oduah train, but are said to be retired)

VfL Osnabrück against Eintracht Braunschweig 0:0

VfL starts with the following line-up and with a total of 22 nominated players it makes no sense to comment on every change:
Böggemann – Rorig, Karademir, Chato, Bähr – Wulff, Thalhammer, Kunze – Putaro (32nd Conteh), Engelhardt, Makridis
Of the players who should or can leave VfL, wahling, putaro and chato are in the squad and will also be used.

Referee Frank Willenborg from Osnabrück whistles at temperatures of around 32 degrees. VfL also plays today in the newly delivered black away jerseys from Capelli, the new one outfitter of VfL.

The first minutes belong to VfL, with no real chances being created. After a quarter of an hour, Braunschweig are in the lead and come on a few occasions, but Luca Böggemann is surprisingly experienced, apart from a little uncertainty in the early minutes.

In the 32nd minute, new signing Christian Conteh came on for Putaro and, together with Makridis, brought some excitement to the VfL game. In the end, the 0-0 is okay, although you shouldn’t complain about a victory for Braunschweig either.

Eintracht Braunschweig against Fortuna Dusseldorf 0:1

From Osnabrück’s point of view, the most exciting thing about this game is certainly Daniel Thioune’s temporary homecoming at the Bremen Bridge, which is greeted with friendly applause. Otherwise, the author of these lines first allows himself an iced coffee. In this game, too, both teams play with restrained foam, in the end the Fortunes won with a goal shortly before the end from … from who? Right, by Vincent Vermeij.

VfL Osnabrücker against Fortuna Dusseldorf 1:1

The line-up of VfL: Kühn – Ajdini, Gyamfi, Wiemann, Kleinhansl – wahling, Tesche, Gnaase – Kehl, Wriedt, Niemann.

For me, the supposedly stronger formation is now up against Fortuna, who take the lead in front of 3,340 spectators through a goal by Daniel Ginczek. A big chance by Appelkamp destroys Kühn in the usual skillful manner. After an unjustified penalty, which Kleinhansl takes out and Otschi Wriedt confidently converts to 1:1, there should have been a penalty a few minutes later after a foul on Robert Tesche.
