Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in talks with Galatasaray to sign Danish international defender Victor Nelson for €25m, while fringe star Davinson Sánchez is going the other way for €8m.
That’s according to Turkish newspaper Hürriyet, which claims Spurs are the first to sign the 24-year-old Danish centre-back, and the player has asked club officials to reach an agreement with Tottenham.
Tottenham have been busy in the transfer market, having secured the signings of Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Manor Solomon. The club should focus on strengthening the defense and have the likes of Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven in their squad.
But Spurs appear to be pushing for a deal for another star Galatasaray centre-back, Victor Nelson. Nelson, who played for his country in Qatar at the World Cup last year, has already built a reputation as one of the best young defenders in Europe.
The 24-year-old is coming off a solid campaign in the Turkish top flight, where he was a regular starter for a Galatasaray side that had the worst defense in the Super Lig and won a 23rd championship title. eight points
Although arguably unproven in a more demanding division like the Premier League, it’s clear that Nelsson is a huge talent and would serve Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs as a ball-playing centre-back. It is claimed that the player is now desperate to sign on a Premier League transfer after Sevilla tried to sign him in the summer of 2022.
The reigning Turkish champions are resigned to losing the Denmark international and would demand a fee of around €25m to sell their prized asset. They have also identified Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez as an ideal replacement for the Dane.
Spurs paid €45m, a club record at the time, to sign the Colombian defender from Ajax in the summer of 2017. But after playing a small role in recent years, he only has one year left on his contract. The north London club are willing to listen to offers for the defender and have set an asking price of €12m, €4m more than Galatasaray are willing to pay.
The report adds that Okan Buruk’s team is currently in negotiations with Spurs to sell Nelson for €25 million and sign Sánchez for around €8 million. The Spurs are used to making these kinds of deals, which are essentially two different deals rather than a straight trade or more effective player deal involving both players.
Earlier this summer, they acquired James Maddison in a €45m deal, with Harry Winks moving the other way for a fee of around €12m. It remains to be seen if they will be able to do something similar to bring Nelson back from Galatasaray this summer. The player is still eager for movement.
