The chain store Albert has decided to bake bread from bananas that are not sold as part of not wasting food. He informed that in 2022 he baked seven thousand sandwiches, for which 1.5 tons of bananas were used. This sweet pastry, which is made from mashed bananas, costs 49.90 and is very popular with customers.
Albert reported on his product on social networks. However, customers also wondered what happened to other items that didn’t sell. But also how ripe the bananas are to produce said item.
At the outset, it should be noted that Albert bakes banana bread only in hypermarkets. He donates unsold supermarket bananas to food banks. The completely overripe ones are then sent to animal farms.

Food waste has long been a big topic. Some chains approach crates or bags of fruit and vegetables that would no longer be sold. Other products that are nearing their expiration date become cheaper. One of the discussants on Facebook admitted that he himself worked in the store and saw how everything was thrown away after the expiration date. Including pastries, fruit, butter or meat.

To this, Albert quickly responded that he was certainly not indifferent to the waste. “We try to prevent unnecessary food waste with the help of ‘Help us not to waste’ stickers. You can find the stickers on foods that are about to expire and these products are discounted. Every early evening, we also reduce the price of selected pastries by up to 50 percent, so that everything is sold until the last bun and nothing is wasted. For food that cannot be sold and no longer meets the requirements for consumption, we donate it from our stores to, for example, zoos and farms for feeding,” the store said.
Goods with the aforementioned label are often discounted by twenty percent. Even in this case, there were many critics on social networks.

“At our stores, we try to cut the sausages so that there is almost nothing left in the evening. What is not sold is written off,” explained Albert.
