Infrastructure Damaged by Semeru Cold Lava Flood in Lumajang, East Java

The Regency Government (Pemkab) of Lumajang, East Java, has collected data on a number of infrastructure and public facilities that were damaged by the cold lava flood. Semeru Mountain. One of the infrastructures damaged by the Semeru cold lava flood was a bridge.

“Currently we are still collecting data on a number of infrastructure facilities that were damaged as a result of being hit by the floods,” said Head of Bina Marga Division of DPUTR Lumajang Regency Heri Kurniawan, as quoted by Antara, Saturday (8/7/2023).

Heri said his team was still traveling to carry out monitoring at a number of locations and also waiting for reports from other teams. According to him, the damage has not been identified in detail because the water discharge is still relatively high.

“Meanwhile we put up warning signs and conduct an assessment, so we make sure first,” he said.

From the results of the provisional assessment, there were several damaged bridges, namely the bridge connecting Tumpeng Village and Kloposawit Village was completely cut off, the Kali Regoyo Suspension Bridge was badly damaged, then the Kaliputih Limpas Bridge and the bridge on the Lumajang-Malang border were also completely cut off, so that it could not be passed.

In addition, it was also reported that several watersheds (DAS) through which Mount Semeru’s cold lava passed had experienced a decrease in water discharge.

The community together with the local government and the TNI-Polri made efforts to handle and clean up the remaining mud both on the bridge and on the main road which is the access for residents’ mobility.

Meanwhile, hundreds of residents who were worried about being affected by the cold lava flood of Mount Semeru chose to flee to a number of safe locations including the Jarit Village Hall, the Penanggal Village Hall and the Tumpeng Village Hall.
