Education Department of Guanajuato Urges Parents to Donate Textbooks Amidst Uncertainty

Guanajuato.- Given the uncertainty about the arrival of free textbooks before the start of the next school year, the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato, Jorge Hernández Meza, asked the parents of outgoing students to donate theirs.

Until now, the National Commission for Free Textbooks (Conaliteg) has delivered only 43 percent of the textbooks required for primary education, despite the fact that the following school year starts in approximately one month.

In this regard, Jorge Hernández pointed out that as an emerging measure parents are being asked to leave their children’s textbooks in the classrooms if they want to help more students have these textbooks so that then the SEG can count on them. them in the next school year.

“The generosity of students and parents is an important effort so that they can leave us their textbooks, I must be emphatic, they are theirs, whoever does not want to do so is free to do so, but whoever can generously leave their books textbooks at school, they will be used by us,” he said.

The Secretary of Education of Guanajuato said that close to half of the students in the state have a cell phone and connectivity to download support materials that can eventually replace textbooks temporarily.

However, he stressed that there is another 50 percent that lacks these conditions, especially those that are in schools that are very far away, so these schools would be the ones that would be prioritized to deliver the books that parents donate.

In addition, he pointed out that they will take advantage of the workshops that will be given prior to the end of the school year to publicize the aforementioned strategies for the next class period.

Another strategy is to use the Concuprise model (Primary and Secondary Curricular Concretion), created and implemented by teachers and administrators from Guanajuato during the pandemic, so that students could achieve objectives and goals set with a more compact study plan.

For the state of Guanajuato, the delivery of 6 million 789 thousand 147 books is expected, by Conaliteg: 232 thousand 771 for preschool level, 3 million 783 thousand 280 for primary level, 1 million 169 thousand 682 for secondary level, 326 thousand 746 English books for high school; 1 million 22 thousand 414 for telesecundaria level and 254 thousand 254 English books for telesecundaria.
