Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Apple continues to excel in China’s smartphone market. The manufacturer from the United States showed an increase of 8% Year-on-Year, without facing significant competition during the 618 sales period in 2023 (July 1-18).
Apple’s skyrocketing in China even occurred when China’s smartphone sales fell by 8% YoY.
This indicates weak customer demand for smartphones amid economic headwinds, according to a Counterpoint report, quoted from MacdailynewsFriday (7/7/2023).
For the record, China is the largest HP market in the world. Thus, the condition of the HP market in the Bamboo Curtain country greatly determines the business performance of mobile phone manufacturers.
One of the Chinese manufacturers, Vivo, secured the largest share in this year’s sales period of 18.2%.
Vivo is followed by Apple with 17.9% share and Honor with 15.4%.
Weak sales during the 618 period also fell short of previous expectations, although most Android OEMs are trying to attract consumers by providing discounts.
Uncertain economic prospects make consumers more careful in shopping, including for durable goods such as smartphones.
