The Link Between Resistance Training and Alzheimer’s Prevention: Brazilian Research

Many people go to the gym, and while they may do so mainly for a toned upper body, they now have another good reason for their membership.

A Brazilian research shows that regular resistance training of the muscles can help prevent or at least delay the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

In this form of exercise, the muscles are often trained with special resistance bands, medicine balls and other objects that can serve as external resistance to train your muscles.

‘This is increasingly proving to be an effective strategy to treat symptoms of sporadic Alzheimer’s (non-hereditary dementia at a young age, red.),” said study co-author Beatriz Monteiro Longo, an associate professor of neuroscience at the Federal University of São Paulo.
