Reuters said, on Thursday, that the Twitter platform threatened to take legal action against the “Threads” application, which was launched by the “Meta Platforms” company and attracted more than 30 million subscribers in the first 18 hours of its launch.
Reuters reported that Semaphore reported that Twitter lawyer Alex Spiro sent a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg informing him of the move.
“Twitter intends to vigorously enforce its intellectual property rights, and requires Meta to take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other top-secret information,” Spiro said in his letter.
The Semaphore report indicated that Spiro accused Meta in his letter of hiring former Twitter employees “who are aware of or still have access to Twitter trade secrets and other top-secret information.”
Meta and Spiro did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.
Threads, which has been dubbed the “Twitter killer”, topped the free apps on Apple’s App Store in Britain and the United States on Thursday.
The launch of the application comes after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter owner Elon Musk exchanged criticism for months, but also expressed their willingness to fight a mixed martial arts match on the ground in Las Vegas.
Many competitors emerged for Twitter after Musk acquired it in a $ 44 billion deal last year, and since the purchase of the famous social networking site, Musk has taken a series of chaotic decisions that have caused users and advertisers to turn away from the platform. Musk’s latest move included limiting the number of tweets a user can read per day.
Threads enables users to post text and links, and to reply to and republish messages from others.
The app has no hashtags and search keywords, which means users can’t follow live events like they can on Twitter.
