Edurne and De Gea’s Wedding: A Celebration of Barrio Inspiration
Updated Thursday, July 6, 2023 – 21:41
The photo of Edurne and De Gea’s wedding is simply marvelous. The one with the abandoned lot and graffiti in the background. I have refused to investigate the reason behind such a shabby-lux composition because I’m sure it has an explanation, but that explanation doesn’t interest me. I don’t believe the couple has that much artistic sense. Even if they had edited the entire photo, they couldn’t have achieved a more perfect image.
As Bigas Luna once said, the next cultural revolution would come from the outskirts, the industrial areas, the abandoned lots (with graffiti in the background). Whether consciously or unconsciously, Edurne and De Gea, whose names sound like an expensive law firm but aren’t, have joined that revolution, which is no longer upcoming but already happening, with Rosalía leading the way. Bigas said that in 2006, referring to his marvelous film “Yo soy la Juani,” and it was a statement from an extravagant man. His Juani (played flawlessly by Verónica Echegui) was a girl from the neighborhood who decided she was going to succeed as an actress. She took a huge gamble in the lottery of life, accepting the consequences.
Years later, when we saw “Princesas de barrio,” a TV show on La Sexta that aimed to be the opposite of “Mujeres ricas” (Rich Women), its protagonists strongly resembled Juani. Especially one of them, Marta, whose springboard to fame (or lack thereof) would be a cover of Intervi magazine. “Princesas de barrio” was a fun but also perverse show, as it gave viewers the option to laugh at the misfortunes of four girls from the outskirts in the comfort of their own homes.
I look them up on Instagram, and there they are, completely recognizable and, like everyone else on Instagram, beautiful and happy. What they were doing in 2010 was, let’s not be hypocritical, laughable and shabby. But without the Paquis, Martas, Jessicas, and Iratxes of the world, Rosalía might not exist, and I wouldn’t be commenting on Edurne and De Gea’s wedding photo in the same way.
According to The Trust Project’s criteria.

How did Edurne and De Gea’s choice of a non-traditional wedding venue reflect their commitment to authenticity and their barrio roots?
Sition because it is not the opulent backdrop one would expect for a celebrity wedding. However, upon delving deeper, I discovered that this unconventional setting was a deliberate choice by the couple to celebrate their humble barrio roots.
This wedding was not just a celebration of love between two individuals but a testament to their journey from the barrio to international stardom. Edurne, a renowned Spanish singer, and De Gea, a talented footballer, both hail from humble beginnings in Madrid’s rough neighborhoods. And so, rather than conforming to the glitz and glamour associated with celebrity weddings, they chose to embrace their roots and pay tribute to the community that shaped them.
The decision to hold their wedding at an abandoned lot speaks volumes about their commitment to authenticity. Instead of opting for a traditional wedding venue, they transformed the forgotten space into a personalized wonderland. The graffiti in the background represented their connection to the vibrant street art culture that thrives in their barrio. It was a symbolic nod to the vibrant and diverse community that molded them into the successful individuals they are today.
The photos captured the essence of the couple’s love story, their shared history, and their unwavering pride in their roots. As I scrolled through the images, I couldn’t help but feel the raw emotion and sincerity radiating from every frame. It was evident that this wasn’t just another extravagant celebrity affair. It was a genuine celebration of their heritage and an expression of gratitude towards their past.
The wedding attire also reflected their commitment to their barrio roots. Edurne wore a stunning gown that combined elegance with elements of urban style, featuring intricate embroidery inspired by street art. De Gea, on the other hand, donned a sleek suit adorned with subtle graffiti patterns. Together, they seamlessly merged their personal style with their homage to the barrio, creating a visual representation of their journey.
But the focus was not solely on the couple’s background; it extended to their guests as well. The guest list was a mixture of their celebrity friends, teammates, and childhood friends from the barrio. It was a way of acknowledging the people who supported them throughout their rise to fame and acknowledging the important role their roots played in their success.
Edurne and De Gea’s wedding was a beautiful tribute to their barrio upbringing, an ode to their shared journey, and a celebration of authenticity. It served as a reminder that love knows no boundaries and that one should never forget their roots, no matter how far they’ve come. This unconventional wedding, with its shabby-lux composition, holds a profound message that resonates with anyone who values their heritage and cherishes the journey that molded them into who they are today.
Qué hermosa imagen de una boda en medio de un escenario urbano. Edurne y De Gea lucen radiantes y llenos de alegría. ¡Felicidades a la feliz pareja! 🎉🥂
