Many people have a Berlin will. It is not necessarily the ideal way to inherit. But it can be improved if you only turn a few small screws. A guest post

Even today, the Berlin Testament continues to enjoy unbroken popularity in traditional family relationships. The reasons for this are obvious: providing for the longer-living spouse in the first case of inheritance and the exclusive appointment of joint children as heirs in the second case of inheritance correspond to the wishes of many parents.

From an inheritance tax point of view, however, a classic Berlin will is usually an unfavorable arrangement. The children’s allowances in the first inheritance remain unused, the assets are taxed in the first and second inheritance – i.e. twice if necessary. On top of that, negative progression effects can also occur.
