Portugal Advances to U-19 European Championship Semi-Finals: Mathematically Confirmed

Now it’s mathematically confirmed: Portugal is in the semi-finals of the U-19 European Championship.

The thrashing of Italy had already left that goal practically achieved, but the result of the other group game definitely fixes the Portuguese calculator, with Poland beating Malta by 2-0.

The goals were scored by Igor Strzalek (59m) and Tomasz Pienko (82m).

Poland was reduced to ten men in the 22nd minute, with Matyjewicz seeing the second yellow card, but the Malta team, coached by the Portuguese Tozé Mendes, then had Dylan Scicluna (62m) shown a red card.

Portugal, with six points, has already secured its presence in the semi-finals, even before closing the group stage against Malta, host of the tournament, which has yet to score. The other vacancy will be decided in the duel between Italy and Poland, who go into the last round with three points.
